Position: Controller
Supervisor: General Manager
Department: Accounting FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary To implement and maintain sound accounting systems that ensure the smooth operation of the property.
Essential Functions * Oversees the operation of the accounting, purchasing, and night audit staff.
* Supervises and coordinates external audit processes.
* Manages cash flow for the property.
* Reviews and signs off on monthly entries by accounting staff.
* Coordinates annual budget preparation and monthly forecast with General Manager.
* Assists in the development and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and the expense dictionary.
* Audits internal accounting functions for accuracy and timeliness.
* Coordinates all quarterly and monthly inventory processes.
* Reviews daily night audit report for prior day's activity.
* Participates as an active member of the management team.
Position Requirements
Minimum Knowledge Requires a broad knowledge of a highly technical or professional field. Requires highly complex conceptual thinking. May require considerable working knowledge of other major areas and the skill to integrate and communicate that information.
Formal Education and Job-Related Experience This position requires a minimum formal education of a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years job-related experience.

Workload Fluctuation The workload required to perform this job requires ability to adapt to change.
Manual Skills Some portions (10 – 50%) of daily assignments involve application of manual skills requiring motor coordination in combination with finger dexterity, e.g., typing, handwriting, or machine operations.
Physical Effort Duties involve little or no (less than 10%) exertion of physical effort.
Physical Environment Generally free from exposure to dirt, odors, noise, temperature / weather extremes, or unlevel, slippery, or unstable working surfaces.
Work Schedule Work may require evening, night, holiday, or weekend assignments on occasion. Schedule varies according to business demands and needs.
Occupational Risks Nature of duties performed presents little or no (less than 10%) potential for job-related accidental injury.
Ergonomics Risks Some portions (10 – 50%) of daily assignments involve ergonomic risk, such as regular repetitive tasks, forceful or prolonged exertions of the hands, vibration, cold temperatures, heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, or carrying of heavy objects, poor body mechanics, restrictive workstations, or awkward postures.
Safety Responsible for reviewing, clarifying, and administering all safety related policies and procedures for a specific division of Gemstone Hotels & Resorts. Recommends substantial safety enhancements and implements accordingly for division (major area). Responsible for accidents, injuries, and worker's compensation insurance for that area.
Required Travel Position does not require travel to other Gemstone Hotels & Resorts properties or client locations. Work is completed on the property.
